Margaret Chapman, IHM

Mission Councilor/Treasurer

Sister Margaret earned her bachelor’s degree from Mercy College (Detroit) and holds a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ont. She has served in pastoral ministry at St. Boniface Parish (Detroit) and St. Matthew Parish (Sidney, Mont.) and as a hospital chaplain at Providence Hospital (Southfield, Mich.) and Good Samaritan Hospital (Dayton, Ohio).

She also completed the spiritual director’s certification program from the Dominican Center for Religious Development and an internship with Mercy Housing Inc. in affordable housing management. Sister Margaret was appointed as IHM Candidate and Vocation director in 1987, a position she held for seven years.  She served as IHM Development director for nearly 10 years.

Prior to her election to the IHM Leadership Council, Sister Margaret ministered as president of Compassionate Companions, Inc./Monroe County Guardian, an organization she began with five other IHM Sisters at the request of the IHM congregation. The agency provides court appointed guardianship and conservatorship for mentally incapacitated adults in Monroe and Wayne counties.
