Detroit Cristo Rey High School (2008 – Present)

Co-sponsored by the IHM Sisters and the Basilian Fathers

Sponsored by the IHM Sisters and the Basilian Fathers, Detroit Cristo Rey opened on the Holy Redeemer campus in southwest Detroit in the fall of 2008.

Cristo ReyThe school is part of the nationwide Cristo Rey Network® and maintains rigorous academic standards, with a mission to serve financially challenged and educationally underserved urban youth. It emphasizes faith, morals and service to the community.

All students participate in the Corporate Work Study Program, which complements the school’s curriculum with one day per week of work experience. The work offers the knowledge, skills and self-confidence students need to be successful in higher education, in the workplace and in life. Their salaries are paid directly to the school, making a faith-based, student-centered education affordable.

The students give up four weeks of their summer vacation to train for the jobs they will hold during the academic year. Detroit Cristo Rey’s corporate partners – all in the Detroit area – range from hospitals and universities to law firms and nonprofit organizations. The school provides transportation to and from the work sites.
