Celebrating Founders’ Day

On Thursday, November 9, IHM Sisters, employees, and apartment residents gathered in the Maxis Community Room to celebrate Founders’ Day. Everyone enjoyed apple cider, donuts and camaraderie. Prior to the reception, there was a liturgy in the Motherhouse Chapel where Sister Joan Mumaw delivered the reflection.

Faith and trust are needed as today we face dramatic changes in society, the church and religious life. We are called to renew our lives, once again, in the spirit of the founders.

On November 10, 1845, Rev. Louis Florent Gillet offered Mass inside the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception (then still St. Antoine) to the first three members of this fledgling congregation. One of them, Mother Theresa Maxis Duchemin, is recognized as the co-founder of the IHM Sisters along with Rev. Gillet.
