Rememberings

At the Mass of Christian Burial for an IHM Sister, it is customary to have a fellow sister give what we call a Remembering. It tells something about the life of the sister, recalls memories of her, and expresses our love and appreciation of her. Prior to the 1970s, memories of a departed sister were preserved in what was called a Menology—a brief story or memory of her. In the few instances where a Menology is lost to history, a passage from the IHM Motherhouse Chronicles reflecting on a sister’s life and character is provided as an alternative.

This search tool allows you to search by a sister’s last name, religious name or baptismal name. (This last option works only for a sister who returned to her baptismal name after Vatican II). Type any part of her name in the search box. If you are uncertain of the correct spelling, type the first few letters. Then click Search. If you are unable to find the Remembering you are looking for or would like to learn more about a deceased sister, contact the IHM Archives here.

If you are searching for a name with an apostrophe eg. O’Hara, leave out the apostrophe and do not leave a space where the apostrophe would be.
