Richard Genord, IHM Associate

Richard John Genord was born on May 14, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of eight children born to the union of Joseph Genord and Lena (Rassette) Genord. He attended St. Margaret Mary Grade School and then graduated from St. Bernard High School.

Richard devoted many years of his life as a member of a religious community, the Holy Cross Brothers of Notre Dame. He served in Wisconsin from 1947-1970. He married the former Theresa Eby on October 18, 1973, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The couple had originally met at a singles group, and their first date was a trip to Christmas Eve Mass.

Richard and Theresa were blessed with the birth of two daughters. For seventeen years, he provided for his family as a bus driver, maintenance person, and janitor at St. Patrick Parish. Following his retirement from St. Pat’s, he remained a part-time janitor at SMCC.

Richard enjoyed being very, very active. He loved to experience new things and visit new places, traveling whenever possible. He liked to bowl and was an avid vegetable gardener. He was a member and volunteer at Monroe Center for Healthy Aging, where he served as the official photographer. He was also a member of the Monroe Camera Club and the Monroe Barbershoppers. He enjoyed being a reading buddy at Custer Elementary and volunteering at IHM, where he became an associate. For fifty years, he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, although he also enjoyed attending worship at St. Joseph Church in Maybee as well.
