Margaret (Paul Therese) Babcock, IHM

Sister Margaret Babcock, IHM, died Monday, May 30, 2022, at the IHM Senior Living Community.

Margaret Ann Babcock was born on March 1, 1929, to parents John and Anne (Cameron) Babcock in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She attended St. Clare Elementary School and after her mother died in 1933, she entered St. Mary Academy. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament Cathedral High School in 1947. Margaret entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Monroe, MI, in 1950 and was received into the novitiate, taking the religious name Sister Paul Therese in 1951.

As a young religious, Sister Margaret taught elementary students at St. Mary, Monroe, St. John, Fenton, St. Martin, Detroit and St. Mary of Redford. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, Detroit. She also taught high school students at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Westchester, IL and St. Vincent in Detroit and was principal at St. Joseph in Erie.

Sister Margaret earned a Master of Art’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. She moved into administration at St. Mary Academy and then congregational administration as Motherhouse Administrator and Provincial of the Motherhouse Community. Following years of active ministry, Margaret moved into volunteer services as a tutor for children and service to her IHM community.

After moving to the Motherhouse in 2011, she continued her pastoral work with all residents and staff on the IHM campus.

Sister Margaret is survived by her brother, Allen and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers John, James, Edward, Paul and Father Timothy.
