Joan Elizabeth Wyskiel was born on Feb. 18, 1945 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Charles and Carmel (Meno) Brazzel. Joan, who resided in Dearborn, Michigan, passed away on March 2, 2025 at 80. Beloved wife of John R. Wyskiel for 47 years. Loving mother of Beth (Matt) Morris, Terri Wyskiel, Johnny (Jill) Wyskiel, and Dan Wyskiel. Dear sister of John Brazzel. Dearest grandmother of Ariana Morris, Anthony Morris and Julia Wyskiel. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Janet Smith and Thomas Brazzel. Many other loving family and friends also survived Joan.
Joan spent her life devoted to caring for others, starting with becoming an Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister. She taught elementary school children in Detroit, then began to work as part of the Detroit-Recife Mission in Brazil as a nurse, where she would remain focused on the poorer population for 8 years. There she met the love of her life, John, who was also part of the mission as a priest. They moved back to the town she grew up in where they had four children. Desiring to expose her children to the less fortunate in the world, the family spent three years in Bolivia and Venezuela working with the Maryknoll Lay Mission Program. After returning to the US, she would spend time as a hospice chaplain, pastoral administrator and women’s shelter volunteer.
On Saturday, March 8, family will receive guests from noon to 2 p.m. at Allegria Village Chapel, 15101 Ford Rd, Dearborn, Michigan 48126. A brief service will be held at 12:30 p.m.
