Francis L. McAuliffe, IHM Associate

Francis Leo McAuliffe, Jr., age 95 of Monroe, passed away the morning of Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at the IHM Senior Living Community.

Born Aug. 1, 1927, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Francis L. McAuliffe, Sr., and Marie Walstedt. Frank served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. Upon returning home from the Army, Frank attended and graduated from the Catholic University of America with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. With his degree, Frank became a Civil Engineer for SSOE in Toledo, OH.

On Oct. 1, 1955, Frank married the love of his life, Barbara Hunter, at St. Mary Catholic Church. They raised a family and spent over 57 wonderful years together before Barbara’s passing in 2013.

Frank was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was an IHM Associate and dedicated much of his time volunteering in the cafeteria, playing cards with the sisters, and sitting with nuns in their final hours. When he wasn’t at church or volunteering, Frank enjoyed golfing.

To cherish his memory, Frank leaves his children: Frank (Dawn) McAuliffe, III, Steve (Melissa) McAuliffe, Dollene (Marty) Smallbone, Kelly (Bob) Bliefernich, and Mary McAuliffe; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Michelle Howie.

In addition to his parents and wife, Barbara, Frank is preceded in death by a son, Matthew McAuliffe; a daughter, Laurie Rassel; and a sister, Rose Marie.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at IHM Motherhouse Chapel. Frank will lie instate at 9 a.m. with a mass beginning at 10 a.m. In accordance with Frank’s wishes, cremation will follow, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Frank’s memory be made to the IHM Motherhouse.
