Alternative Investments

Another way of social investment is through ‘Alternative Investments.’ IHMs currently invest with eleven different organizations in the form of low-interest loans to organizations that match well with IHM values.  These organizations then use the loans to further their work and mission. These are often organizations that promote economic empowerment for low-income individuals and small businesses that are not able to easily find investment dollars.  Contributions are always welcome.  Most of these groups accept investment loans from profit and non-profit corporations.  Some like the Opportunity Resource Fund (oppfund.org)  invite investments from individuals as well.  The financial return on investment is usually somewhat lower than in the market, but that depends on the market.  Yet receiving a financial return as well as knowing your money is making a difference is a great return on investment.
