What if the very ground beneath us could speak to us about presence and God — and also give us practical tips about our own life?

Rocks are among the most common features of our daily landscape, yet we rarely stop to consider their stories. Geologically, they carry a hidden history stretching across unimaginable ages. In our Scripture tradition, they appear throughout as witnesses, foundations, cornerstones, and signs of God’s enduring presence.

Drawing upon geology, Scripture, theology, mysticism, literature, and art, we will explore familiar images anew by engaging insights from the likes of writer Annie Dillard, paleontologist and mystic Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, theologian Elizabeth Johnson, and others. We will also consider artistic perspectives, from Leonardo da Vinci to the contemporary sculptural work of Sarah Knight.

Together we will discover how rocks hold stories of ancient change and deep belonging, and how these stories are reflected in our own lives.

The morning will include prayer, presentation, personal reflection, and conversation. If you have a favorite rock, please feel free to bring it.
