Freedom to Vote: The John R. Lewis Act

The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by human beings for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison people because they are different from others.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Call on the Senate to do everything within its power to strengthen our democracy and protect every person’s sacred right to vote!

Yesterday, to honor the legacy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) and the National Black Sisters’ Conference (NBSC) issued a joint statement calling on the U.S. Senate to do everything in its power to strengthen our democracy and protect every person’s sacred right to vote by passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. The full statement can be found here.

The Senate is expected to take up the legislation, which passed in the House last week, as early as today. We are encouraging everyone to share this statement with their Senators as the vote gets underway. You can email the link to your Senators via their contact page:
