Mary Jo Jeppesen, IHM Associate

Mary Jo Jeppesen, IHM Associate, died Oct. 31, 2020 at age 75. She met the IHM community as a child when she attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade School in Glen Lake (Minnetonka), Minn., which was staffed by IHM Sisters. “IHM was home for me,” she recalled in later years, “a haven of warmth that I needed.”

She joined the IHM community after high school and earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Marygrove College. She ministered at St. Monica and St. Rose, Detroit; Sacred Heart, Roseville; and St. Raphael, Glasgow, Mont., before leaving the community. She pursued her education at the College of St. Catherine, St. Mary’s Campus (Minneapolis), in the Chemical Dependency Family Treatment Program, becoming a certified chemical dependency counselor.

Following her retirement, Mary Jo volunteered for a variety of organizations in Minnesota, including the Pax Christi Catholic Community and the Carver County Jail.

She became an IHM Associate in 1992 and became a life-long associate in 2012.
