The IHM community established Lifetime Giving Societies in recognition and gratitude to friends and family who have given a total of $10,000 in cumulative gifts throughout their lifetimes. The names of those in our giving societies are recognized on special displays inside the Motherhouse.
The societies are named after the IHM co-founders, Redemptorist priest Rev. Louis Florent Gillet and Sister Theresa Maxis, as well as the congregation’s patron saints and spiritual guides, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Alphonsus Ligouri.
The selfless and generous spirit of giving exemplified by these lifetime giving achievements reflects the constant spirit of giving that characterized the lives of the societies’ namesakes. We are pleased to be able to symbolize these societies with icons written by Nancy Lee Smith, IHM.
Louis Gillet Society
The Rev. Louis Florent Gillet’s passion for God and his desire to give himself fully to the liberating mission of Jesus is reflected in the impelling fire in his hands and inner spirit. The IHM community is grateful to our living and deceased friends who have given $100,000 or more during their lifetime or through their estate gifts. They exemplify the spirit of Louis Gillet for whom no sacrifice was too great.
Theresa Maxis Society
Theresa Maxis Duchemin’s passion for religious life, courage and trust in Divine Providence serve as inspiration for all IHMs. Her ineffable beauty glows in the light of the Fire she holds. The IHM community is grateful to our living and deceased friends who have given $40,000 – $99,999 during their lifetime or through their estate gifts. They exemplify Theresa’s whole-hearted commitment to mission.
Teresa of Avila Society
St. Teresa of Avila was a mystic, reformer, doctor of the church and is the patron saint of the IHM Sisters. The inner flame she received from the Holy Spirit inspired her powerful writings about prayer and spiritual wisdom. The IHM community is grateful to our living and deceased friends who have given $25,000 – $39,999 during their lifetime or through estate gifts. They exemplify St. Teresa’s belief that much can be done on this road if one has the courage to attempt great things.
Alphonsus Liguori Society
St. Alphonsus Liguori, founded the Redemptorists and was a friend of the poor and abandoned, moral theologian and is another patron saint of the IHM Sisters. The flame of the Spirit hovering above his head symbolizes his sense of being anointed to bring glad tidings to the poor. The IHM community is grateful to our living and deceased friends who have given $10,000 – $24,999 during their lifetime or through estate gifts. They exemplify the spirit of St. Alphonsus who believed that each of us is called in love to give ourselves freely and generously to God and others.
We are also pleased to offer our Future of Hope Society, which recognizes those who have included the IHM community in their estate plans. By passing on a precious part of their life’s legacy, they have made a significant contribution to the future care and ministries of the IHM Sisters. Their commitment to support the life and mission of the IHM community beyond their own lifetimes truly demonstrates that love never comes to an end.
