2015 Theresa Maxis Award recipient


GlendaGlenda D. Price, PhD, is a native of Pennsylvania. She attended Temple University, earning her bachelor’s degree in medical technology, her master’s degree in education media and her doctorate in educational psychology.

Dr. Price served as provost of Spelman College in Atlanta; dean of the School of Allied Health Professionals at the University of Connecticut; and professor and assistant dean of the College of Allied Health Professions at Temple University.

Dr. Price’s entrée to Detroit was as president of Marygrove College from 1998 to 2006. She was the seventh president of the college and the first African-American female to hold this position.

She has served as interim president for the Michigan Colleges Foundation and in 2012, she was appointed president of the Detroit Public Schools Foundation where she oversees the solicitation and stewardship of private philanthropic dollars to support the Detroit Public Schools.

Dr. Price is chair of the board of directors of Focus: HOPE; vice-chair for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the boards of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Council of Michigan Foundations, Detroit Receiving Hospital, The YES Foundation, and The Jewish Fund. She was appointed to Detroit’s Blight Removal Task Force and to the Financial Advisory Board for the City of Detroit. Dr. Price has served on the board of Detroit 90/90 and the Ecumenical Theological Seminary.
