Gathering on a regular basis as a community group is important in fostering a shared life. Assembly is ordinarily scheduled annually, but this is the first time in three years that IHM Sisters were able to gather! For three days July 27-29, sisters and associates from all over the country returned to the Motherhouse to facilitate the participation of the total membership in directing the life of the Congregation. They assisted in participative governance by celebrating communal reality and sharing a mission rooted in the IHM charism and history. In addition to celebrating sisterhood and friendships, Assembly was a means to:
- set a focus for the coming year based on Chapter directions.
- explore congregational attitudes and opinions; and provide for an exchange of views, experiences, and information.
- Create a climate for the operation of the Spirit.
- Help each other grow in faith and prayer and in awareness of the needs of those we serve and with whom we share life in the community.
- Actively contribute to the development and implementation of congregational goals and objectives.
- Prepare a house budget that reflects our commitment to common life and to a simple lifestyle.
- Collaborate in the corporate action of the Congregation and in its plan for responsible stewardship.
