Luke’s Gospel contains unique sections not in Mark or Matthew. It is unique in that it contains so many passages which celebrate the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Think of the Annunciation and Visitation when Mary and Elizabeth greet each other and the Holy Spirit blesses their encounter. This workshop will set forth some central literary features of Matthew’s Gospel, its structure, and also engage us in spiritually nourishing reflections. How do we grow into the practice of Christian discipleship for our times today?
Our presenter is Mary Ellen Sheehan, IHM.
Mary Ellen Sheehan, IHM, STD, earned a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and is a Professor Emerita of Theology at St. Michael’s College of the Toronto School of Theology. Currently, she offers lectures, workshops, and retreats that relate theology to a range of questions emerging in our current cultural context. She draws on the contemplative character of theology to deepen our experience and understanding of God and to explore the meaning of committed Christian discipleship in our world today.
